Name : Kimberly Ann (Jones) Scott
Family : I’m married to Gary & we have a daughter, Kiara, who is 4 years old.
Birthday : May 25th – that means I’m a Gemini! A true one at that – two personalities hot and cold, funny and serious, spontaneous and a planner, girly girl and a sweats and sneakers girl, decisive and wishy-washy, strong-willed & a pushover (well not really!), and shy and outgoing.
A little about me : First, I’m a daughter of God. Beyond that, I’m a wife, a mom, and a spiritual mom and sister to more than a hundred teens and young adults. I’m a writer and a thinker. I’m a cradle Catholic but left the church and God when I left home for college. But God called me back to the Church when I was 26 though I’ve been growing up in my faith over the last 20 years and honestly, I really didn’t begin to take my faith seriously until 2004 when Gary and I decided to pursue adoption.
Fav scriptures : there are too many to choose from…I LOVE Psalm 27, I love Acts 1:8 and Acts 2:1-41. These next ones have been instrumental in ministry: John 1:43 and 2:5 (Christ’s words: “Follow Me” and Mary’s advice: “Do whatever he tells you.”) – This is the foundation which inspires my approach to ministry. Luke 17:5-6 – amazing what just a little bit of faith can do, and Luke 5:1-11 – never stop; go deeper in my faith; be not afraid, from now on I will be catching hearts of young people.
Fav saint : My Confirmation Saint is St. Therese of Lisieux - but I was confirmed in the 4th grade, so don’t ask me why I selected her though I have deepened my knowledge about her in the last two years and find her inspiring. My all-time favorite saint is St. Peter – I love him! He’s very intense and over-the-top about his faith – so am I. Often, he put his foot in his mouth out of sheer excitement and passion – so do I. But the ultimate message for me is that God doesn’t pick perfect people to do His work – I am a true example of this! People who knew me years ago can’t believe the work I’ve been called to do!! You just never know what God has planned for you until you open your heart.
Fav color : without doubt, PURPLE!
Fav food : have you seen me…it might be easier to talk about my least favorite food – but one of my favorite restaurants is Trabuco Oaks – it’s this little hole in the wall in Trabuco Canyon and they make a great Filet Mignon…
Fav movies : are you kidding me… there are way too many to choose from – last really good movie I saw was Slumdog Millionaire. There’s a handful of movies I could watch over and over – one being Sound of Music and My Big Fat Greek Wedding comes to mind – I laughed out loud the first time I saw it and still do.
Fav tunes on my IPOD : right now, I’m listening to Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, Tenth Avenue North, Casting Crowns…...I love contemporary Christian music – it inspires me.
5 Things I can't live w/o : my beloved, Gary, my sweet daughter, Kiara, very good red wine, spa days, and my relationship with God (not necessarily in that order!)
5 Things I'd rather live w/o : unnecessary drama, gossip, back-stabbing, negativity, and about 40 extra pounds of weight.
Words of Wisdom : Mother Teresa once said, "How sad it is when someone comes to you looking for Jesus and all they see is you." Everything we do from ‘hello, how are you?’ to deep sharing should be done with the intention of giving people a chance to open up and experience Christ. St. Francis said, "Preach the Gospel, use words when necessary" – people will remember more about who you are as a person versus anything you might ever say.
