Confirmation II

The second year of the Confirmation journey focuses on bringing the candidates closer to the Church to promote justice, service and healing, to become witnesses and disciples of Christ and to help in the Church’s mission to build up the Kingdom of God. Candidates in the second year of the Confirmation journey typically go on retreat in the spring (March or April).

As part of our faith journey, it is helpful to select or focus on one or more Saints for spiritual guidance and as role models of charity and discipleship. For that reason, you are required to select a saint as a role model and source of spiritual inspiration through your sacramental preparation journey. The saint you select might be someone with whom you have a connection, or who inspires you. The saint you choose might represent the direction you feel your faith journey is taking, or may represent a strength or attribute you have or feel you need. Whether you are choosing to focus on the saint you were named after or are selecting a new saint to model after, it is important and necessary that you know a little about the saint’s life and his/her faith journey. Therefore, a short but sincere and prayerful written reflection and presentation on the life of your saint is required and is due in your second year of your preparation journey.

Additionally, if you have not already selected a sponsor, you must do so at the start of your second year. Be sure to select someone who can be a spiritual mentor or coach to you. You do not need another friend – you need someone who will walk with you, give you honest feedback and wise advice, and help you to keep your commitment to being a disciple of Christ. This individual can not be your parent. They must be fully initiated in the Catholic Church and must be an active participant in the life of the Church. They must also be able to receive Communion which means they are without mortal sin and if they are married, have been married in the Church.
